Hockey on the Prairies
Hockey on the Prairies played like it used to be…and perhaps as it should be. There is something quintessentially Canadian about seeing a dad on the ice shooting pucks with his kids on a Saturday afternoon. Better yet, on a homemade rink across from the barn.
The Red Wagon
When I photographed this wagon I was thinking nostalgia and antiques, but when I first saw the actual image it made me sad. Where is the little boy who played with this wagon? Why was it abandoned out in the middle of a field?
Wire Brush
I chose to represent Wire Brush in black and white to emphasize shapes, patterns, and textures. Previous posts like Geranium Leaf illustrated the same thinking. The bristles dominate the picture but the visual focal point is the piece of fuzz collected that they've captured. I like the way the tips of each bristle catches the light. These circular highlights add another pattern as they fade out of focus.
Songbird
This little fellow sits on our kitchen window sill. It's a bird call - you put a bit of water into it and blow for a chirping sound. He looks great in the morning light. As always, appreciate your comments and feedback.
Coat Hooks
The black and white medium is a good way to highlight shape, pattern, and light. It's fun to find a visually interesting pattern in things that one sees every day.
Hex Keys
Once again, you have before you a study of shape, pattern, and light represented in a black and white photograph. I enjoy finding shapes and patterns just for their visual interest. I don't find any deep significance in this picture (maybe you do!). I just find it visually interesting and enjoy looking at it.
Three Barrels
In terms of content and composition, I find myself attracted to old things because of the way time has left its mark on them. I was likely attracted to the repeating circle pattern, which stands in stark contrast to the bushes around the barrels.
Wind Wheat
My solution was to "get with the wheat", so I lay down at the edge of the field and shot at an upward angel, thus profiling the wheat against the sky.
Long Creek Maple Leaf
Long Creek Red Maple Leaf was taken in my in-law’s wood lot at Long Creek, New Brunswick. The leaf is “hand coloured” - if you can call applying a Photoshop layer by the same name as that old art form.
