Wire Brush

Wire Brush by Kerry Enns Photography

Wire Brush

Wire Brush is today's photograph in Kerry Enns Photography's Today at Home series. This will be the last instalment in the Today at Home series. The project was a lot of fun for me. Pushing myself to think visually in my home environment was a good exercise. I hope that you enjoyed the series. Much more is to come.

If you follow Kerry Enns Photography, you have experienced my interest in close-up, or macro, photography. I enjoy exploring the shapes and patterns in the macro world. The subjects that I photograph are usually part of my everyday life. When I explore them further I find shapes, patterns, and textures that I never would have noticed without a closer look.

I chose to represent Wire Brush in black and white to emphasize shapes, patterns, and textures. Previous posts like Geranium Leaf illustrated the same thinking. The bristles dominate the picture but the visual focal point is the piece of fuzz collected that they've captured. I like the way the tips of each bristle catches the light. These circular highlights add another pattern as they fade out of focus.

As a photographer moves closer to a subject the size of the depth of field shrinks. This is especially true for close-up photography. This forces the photographer to be very aware of how out-of-focus elements will affect the composition. In Wire Brush I focused on the piece of fuzz caught in the brush. I decided to keep the out-of-focus bristles in the frame and have the pattern fade-out. A bonus is the way the circular highlights from the bristle tips also fade-out. The composition is similar to Coat Hooks and Hex Keys.

I hope you enjoy Today at Home: Wire Brush. As always, I love reading your comments and feedback.
