Dad’s Rubber Boots
This photograph must have been taken in November, after the first light snowfall. The contrast between the black rubber and the newly fallen snow creates visual interest, as does the texture of the snow.
Abandoned Farmhouse
Situated along a busy highway, this abandoned Manitoba farmhouse bears witness to the families who lived in it and worked hard to earn a living from the land.
New Slideshow: Farm Relics
I never get tired of this collection. The combination of light, texture, and shallow depth-of-field resulted in an abstract, kind of dreamy look.

Video: Back Roading After Supper
As a fellow classic truck enthusiast, I could appreciate the moment they were enjoying - taking their classic Power Wagon out for a drive after supper. I’ve gone for many similar drives with my classic GMC, so I felt like I could read their minds.
Back-Roading After Supper
A couple of young fellows came by driving a classic 70s Dodge Power Wagon. As a fellow classic truck enthusiast, I could appreciate the moment they were enjoying - taking their classic Power Wagon out for a drive after supper.
Backlit Tissues
Found the perfect photograph to post when I’m down with a wicked chest and head cold.
Tree and Angry Sky
One of the things I love about photography is the need to creatively adapt to changing conditions. So, I shifted my vision from “golden hour” to “thunder storm” and started to look at how the storm clouds and rain changed the prairie landscape.
Thistle Fantasy
The “move close” rule helped me to find the world of exploding Canada Thistle seeds represented in Thistle Fantasy.

Around Town
Around Town is an anthology of photographs that I’ve taken over 35 years. Sometimes I like to go for a walk, camera in-hand, just to see what I can find.
Monochrome Flowers
Today, we’re so used to seeing colour photographs that we view black and white, or monochrome, pictures as “missing something” or as colour photography’s poor, boring cousin. I’d like to challenge that perception with my Monochrome Flowers collection.
Cloud Ring
Black and white allows the eye to appreciate the subtle tones, textures, and shapes of the subject. In this case, the dark, wispy clouds surrounding the ring of spot-lit clouds in the centre of the photograph.
Mountaintop
On the day I took this photograph the weather was not cooperating at all - a rainy BC day. As luck would have it, a break in the cloud cover illuminated the top of this mountain long enough for me to take this photograph.
Contemplation Light
Union Point United Church has been a long-standing subject for me. It's a beautiful country church and cemetery located between the lanes of Highway 75, one of Manitoba's busiest highways. As a photographer, I'm on the lookout for visual stories. In this case, seeing this quaint little country church sitting quietly with cars and trucks rushing by makes for a compelling visual narrative.
Today at Home X
Looking for photographic subjects around the house can be tough because I’m so used to everything I see. It takes some mental juggling to shift from seeing things I use everyday to looking for interesting light, shapes, and patterns.
Bill Enns Seeding
My farmer dad had no capacity (or inclination) to understand why I had to take pictures of everything. He cared about me, though, and if I was interested in something he would let me go at it, even if he thought it was “a bunch of nonsense”.

Two Winter Trees
As I was warming my hands in the truck, I noticed the two trees and the dramatic sky behind them. The low winter sun casts strong shadows, which only added to the scene. Shooting directly into the sun is not something I do often. In this case I did it because it helped to complete the story.
