Stubble Fires

Stubble Fires represents a vivid memory from my adolescence on the farm. The practice of burning straw after harvest has largely grown out of favour for obvious environmental reasons. In the 70s and 80s when I was young, however, it was a regular part of the farming cycle. Each windrow of straw was set on fire and, ideally, the fires would follow the windrows around the field. It felt strange to bring my expensive camera into a burning field, but I was eager to capture this part of the farming cycle on film.
