Cloud Ring
Cloud Ring attests to the fact that the sky is an integral part of the prairie landscape. I’d argue that it plays a more important visual role than in many other parts of the Canadian landscape. The Saskatchewan license plate has it right when it says “Land of Living Skies”, but Saskatchewan doesn’t have a monopoly on the dynamic beauty that the sky brings to our part of the world.
It’s no secret that I love black and white photography. Black and white allows the eye to appreciate the subtle tones, textures, and shapes of the subject. In this case, the dark, wispy clouds surrounding the ring of spot-lit clouds in the centre of the photograph. The sky was moving dynamically when I took this photograph and I managed to capture the visual moment when the setting sun highlighted the ring of clouds.
